Recorded at a cabin in Kingston Springs, just 20 miles from Nashville, by the band's guitarist Ben McLeod and mixed by Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliott Smith, Kurt Vile), the new album is arguably the most intimate and natural album All Them Witches have ever recorded, and represents yet another redefinition of the band. Founded by one member, keyboardist and percussionist Jonathan Draper, All Them Witches is also a reaction to being a "bigger" band, playing bigger shows, touring more, etc. McLeod, bassist and vocalist Charles Michael Parks, Jr, drummer and guitarist Robby Staebler, and the aforementioned Draper return to the core aspects of their identity. And it's the urgency of these songs that is one of their greatest strengths. The performance is grittier, as ready for the stage as the band itself. As always, this is a snapshot. Nothing more. Who will it be tomorrow? Who knows.
