Face Value" launches Phil Collins' extensive series of albums As part of an extensive series of reissues called "Take A Look At Me Now", the album "Face Value" was re-released in 2016. At the same time, the singer is re-releasing his fifth solo album "Both Sides". Six more LPs of songs from Collins' repertoire will also be released in the coming months. "Face Value" is singer Phil Collins' 1981 solo debut, marking Collins' transition from drummer and frontman for Genesis to a solo career. For the new release, all eight albums have been completely remastered and expanded with additional tracks. Above all, however, Collins added live versions to make the songs' separate developments understandable. He chose the songs himself. In addition to album and concert tracks, there are also rare demo recordings and B-sides. For example, the album "Face Value" features a demo of "Please Don't Ask" - the song Collins used to address his divorce from then-wife Andrea Bertorelli. There's also a live version of "In The Air Tonight," the album's most successful single. For the remastering, Phil Collins enlisted the help of an old friend. Nick Davis has already produced many works by Genesis and its members. Most recently, he worked on the "Genesis 1970-1975" box set. Another interesting fact about the series: all albums have been given new covers. Because of this, Phil Collins had himself re-photographed in exactly the same poses as he can be seen in on the original covers. "Face Value" is released as a double CD in digipack and as an LP on 180g vinyl. The album is also available together with "Both Sides" in the "Take A Look At Me Now" box set. This offers room for further releases in the series. Phil Collins launched his solo career in 1981 with the song "Face Value". This new remastered version shows how the songs have evolved over the years and that the originals are still great pop songs from today's perspective. Face Value is the debut solo album by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins , released on 13 February 1981. The album was a huge commercial success and reached number one in several countries. It spawned several hit singles, including the UK number one "In the Air Tonight". Collins began writing songs for this album in late 1979, after leaving the rock band Genesis. Many of the songs were written in response to the personal turmoil he was experiencing at the time. The album's lyrics deal with themes of abandonment, betrayal and loneliness. The album's music is a blend of pop, soul and rock. Collins enlisted the help of several top session musicians to record the album, including drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Daryl Stuermer, who later joined Collins in Genesis. The album Face Value was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one in several countries and spawning several hit singles. The album was certified platinum six times by the RIAA and sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. It is widely regarded as Collins' best album.
