Angelic Upstarts are an influential English punk rock band that formed in South Shields in 1977. The band is known for their leftist political stance and working-class sympathies, which are reflected in their music. They were led by vocalist Thomas "Mensi" Mensforth, who has been a consistent member throughout the band's various line-up changes over the years. Angelic Upstarts gained a following with their raw punk sound and anti-fascist lyrics, quickly becoming one of the pioneering Oi! bands—a subgenre of punk rock that combined the aggression of punk with a strong sense of working-class pride.
