Global Fusion Collective Blends Genres and Cultures

Dirtmusic is a musical collaboration that was formed by Chris Eckman of The Walkabouts, Hugo Race, formerly of The Bad Seeds, and Chris Brokaw of Come. The band's music is known for blending various genres, including rock, blues, African rhythms, and electronic elements. They first came together in 2006 and released their self-titled debut album in 2007. Over the years, Dirtmusic has been recognized for their cross-cultural collaborations, particularly with musicians from Mali. Their album "BKO," released in 2010, was recorded in Bamako, Mali, and features contributions from Malian musicians. The follow-up album "Troubles," released in 2013, continued this trend with further explorations into Malian music and included guest appearances from members of the band Tamikrest. "Bu Bir Ruya," which came out in 2018, saw them working with Turkish artist Murat Ertel from the band Baba Zula. Dirtmusic's work is characterized by a deep respect for the musical traditions they engage with and a spirit of experimental fusion that defines their unique sound.
