Leon Fleisher was a renowned American pianist and conductor, celebrated for his interpretations of classical piano repertoire. Born on July 23, 1928, in San Francisco, Fleisher began studying the piano at age four. He became one of the most prominent pianists of his generation after studying with the legendary Artur Schnabel. Fleisher's career was soaring when he won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition in 1952, which helped to establish him as one of the world's premier classical pianists.
