Renowned American Conductor and Opera Maestro

Thomas Schippers (1930–1977) was an American conductor renowned for his work in both symphonic and operatic repertoires. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he quickly rose to prominence in the classical music world. Schippers made his conducting debut at the age of 21 and went on to become one of the leading conductors of his generation. He served as the music director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra from 1970 until his untimely death in 1977.
