The album "Technical Ecstasy", released in 1976 on Black Sabbath , was a marked departure from the gloom and despondency of their earlier work. While still dark, the album showed the band's growing interest in synthesizers and other new technologies, leading to a more progressive sound. Some fans and critics were disappointed by the album's more experimental direction, but others saw it as a sign of the band's willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of heavy metal. Highlights of "Technical Ecstasy" include the title track, "Dirty Women" and "She's Gone".
