Pop

The term pop music (abbreviated pop) refers to a genre of music or an entire music industry. It is also sometimes used inaccurately as a synonym for the similar term popular music. In the case of pop music, it is usually music with a distinctive sung melody accompanied by a modern style. Unlike rock, it does not usually contain too much dissonance or be too difficult to listen to, as the main aim of any such song is usually to become a hit and appeal to as many listeners as possible. Pop songs usually consist of verses and choruses with a predictable structure. The lyrics tend to have unpretentious, recurring themes. Pop songs are usually composed, recorded and released with the aim of commercial success.
