In 1978, the prestigious RCA Red Seal label released Prokofiev's opera Peter and the Wolf with narrator David Bowie, who later proved his acting talent on Broadway as the Elephant Man. David Bowie's narration lasts 27 minutes and eight seconds. The CD also includes Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" and "The Nutcracker Suite", both with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. Bowie's performance is utterly convincing. He tells the familiar tale with his typical eloquence and stylistic assurance. Moreover, Bowie hints at the beginning at the connection between the music and the various characters in the story.
