At first glance, it seems that musically combining the wild rock'n'roll image and Christian bourgeois contemplation of Christmas is as impossible as squaring the circle. But Elvis, who in the 1950s raced down the steep curve of success like Santa Claus across the skies on a cross-country sled, made this feat possible with his "Christmas Album," when he recorded a mix of popular Christmas songs and seasonal standards for the record. King performs a rock version of "Santa Claus Is Back In Town" as convincingly as he does the nature-idyllic "Peace In The Valley" to close out the year. Of course, there's no missing the most played Christmas hit "White Christmas," which has sold 35 million copies in the Bing Crosby version alone. And perhaps the soulful rendition of "Silent Night" contributed a little to the former Tennessee truck driver's immortality. In earthly currency, the original sells for about $500 US, if the gift sticker is still attached. And because it's Christmas, the reissue includes a coveted sticker.
