But that doesn't change the fact that he has been collecting tributes from more famous colleagues, led by Wynton Marsalis and Jamie Cullum, and his latest album Be Good was also nominated for a Grammy. Behind Porter's rapid rise to stardom is a listenable blend of jazz, gospel and R&B. "I consider myself a jazz singer, but I also like blues, soul and gospel," says Porter, who is particularly fond of Nat King Cole. "Porter is firmly connected to the history of vocal expression in jazz: he believes in the song, in its message, but he considers the most appropriate accompaniment to it to be a modern jazz band," wrote Vladimír Kouřil in Harmonia about Porter's concert in Prague last year. On the new CD we will find mostly original compositions by the singer, which will again be complemented by well-known songs of the past - the jazz standard I Fall In Love Too Easily, or covers of Abbey Lincoln (Lonesome Lover) or Ramsey Lewis (his hit The 'In' Crowd).The line-up of musicians remains the same as on the previous two albums: pianist Chip Crawford, drummer Emanuel Harrold, bassist Aaron James and saxophonists Yosuke Sato and Tivon Pennicott. The band was joined on several tracks by trumpeter Curtis Taylor and organist Glenn Patscha. Of particular significance to Porter is the return of arranger Kamau Kenyatta - for it was an encounter with this musician in jazz clubs that once prefigured his next steps in life.
