Crossings is the second album in a trilogy of experimental sextets that Herbie Hancock released in the early 1970s. On this LPm he continues his experimentation with electronic elements and the overall sound of the three long tracks is extremely versatile and lively. The album opens with African drums and then moves on to the complex sounds the sextet created for this album. The middle track Sleeping Giant is almost 25 minutes long and consists of five funky and groovy parts. It's a transcendental experience that has evolved over time into one of the most moving, powerful and innovative artistic statements of the contemporary jazz scene of the time. Even after more than forty years, this album still sounds incredible. Herbie Hancock is one of the most prolific jazz pianists of the 20th century. He played with such greats as Donald Byrd and Miles Davies. He has a distinctive style that is always dynamic with variations between electronic and acoustic sounds. His work is essentially characterised by a great fidelity to style. Thus, he has supported almost every development in R & B, funk and jazz, while remaining original and unmistakable.
