In March 2017, organist and harpsichordist Peter Kofler launched his current Bach project: a complete recording of the organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Unlike previous complete recordings, Kofler has opted for a "modern" instrument for this project. J.S. Bach was not only a composer of the great polyphonic epoch, but also an innovator and a source of inspiration, especially in the field of organ music. The introduction of tempered tuning, the virtuoso use of the organ pedal or the development of the piano: Bach played a decisive role in this and was one of the first to take advantage of modern developments. The four-manual Rieger organ in the Jesuit Church of St. Michael in Munich, with its 75 stops, has many of the qualities Bach appreciated.
