On April 7, 1990, music history began to be made: on this day, the Three Tenors - the legendary trio of Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo and José Carreras - gave their first concert, which was to awaken the love of classical music in people all over the world from the very beginning, whether they were fans of opera or classical music or not. An important milestone in the trio's history was their live performance in Los Angeles in 1994 on the occasion of the World Cup. Puccini's Nessun Dorma: after this performance, it could remain the biggest hit of all time - sung by the now-deceased Luciano Pavarotti, whose interpretation is still unsurpassed today. Those who remember the Three Tenors will recall the aria in this way. However, the recording of the entire concert reveals a surprising diversity of repertoire. Accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, they offer not only great moments from famous Italian and French operas by Puccini, Leoncavallo, Verdi and Massenet, but also songs like Schubert's Ave Maria and songs from Hollywood films from My Way and Moon River to Singing in the Rain. Around The World, a medley, will round off a great evening. If the Big Three have built a musical monument to themselves, it is this evening - and one experiences it today with as much intensity as if it were yesterday.
