The Brit, who was confined to his home for a long period of convalescence, was unable to go on tour for the time being - but after reviewing numerous get-well wishes, he was able to write a bunch of new songs in peace. Fourteen of the best and most beautiful of them can now be found on his new album, "Shangri-La," which Knopfler recorded with his tried-and-true quintet around guitarist Richard Bennett and former Dire Straits keyboardist Guy Fletcher. The title of his fourth solo album refers to the recording location. Shangri-La is an old 1960s studio in Malibu where Bob Dylan, Neil Young and The Band have played.
