Music for the book Not only is Mark Lanegan releasing his memoir "Sing Backwards And Weep" at the end of April 2020, but the singer, songwriter and former frontman of Sreacming Trees is also presenting a brand new album to go with it. "Straight Songs Of Sorrow" is the title of the now 12th LP, the follow-up to 2019's Somebodys Knocking, and work on it began shortly after Lanegan finished his book. Each song on Straight Songs Of Sorrow relates to an episode or person in the book, some more specifically than others. Musically, the singer with the unmistakable voice remains true to his dark sound and blend of psychedelic rock, grunge, wave, post-punk and gothic rock. This is already evident in the first single "Skeleton Key". Guest contributors to the new album include Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli, Warren Ellis of the Bad Seeds and singer/songwriter Ed Harcourt.
