Metallica : S&M2 is the long-awaited follow-up to the 1999 breakthrough album Metallica : S&M. The album was recorded live at the Berkeley Community Theatre in Berkeley, California and features Metallica , performing with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. The album was released on November 18, 2020 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. It sold over 1.5 million copies in its first week. It has since been certified platinum by the RIAA. Metallica : S&M2 was praised by critics for its ambitious and powerful performance and was hailed as a triumphant return to form for the band. The album has been cited as a major influence on later symphonic metal bands.
