The history of Manchester bands Joy Division and New Order has taken centre stage again in recent years. In recent years, the mythos of both bands has been explored in two films: Michael Winterbottom captured the Madchester scene in his film 24 Hours of Party People (2002) and Anton Corbijn attempted to sensitively approach the tragic and charismatic figure of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in his successful film portrait Control (2007). Total - from Joy Division to New Order is for the first time a representative and chronological compilation of the most important songs of both bands on one CD, which with 18 tracks manages to cover the entire history up to the present day. As a special treat, the album also includes a new, previously unreleased song called Hellbent. The connoisseur will agree: Although a consensus selection for such a project is an impossible task, Total is probably the best compilation that can be assembled on a single CD. Starting with iconic Joy Division tracks like Transmission, Love Will Tear Us Apart, She's Lost Control, Isolation and Atmosphere, it floats through all-time New Order hits like Temptation, Blue Monday (which is still considered the original mother of club tracks and is still played extensively today), The Perfect Kiss, and Bizarre Love Triangle, and finally getting to more recent New Order hits like Crystal and Krafty, with which the band managed to get high on the charts long after the turn of the millennium. A special treat, of course, is the previously unreleased Hellbent - an even more significant treat as the track was recorded back in 2005 and, to the delight of the band members, is now finally reaching fans. A radio edit has also been created for Total, making Hellbent sound as fresh as if it had been recorded only a few days ago.
