With Danny Gottlieb on drums, three-quarters of Metheny's band is represented here. The Watercolors lineup is rounded out by Eberhard Weber, with whom Metheny had already worked in Gary Burton's band. In 2019, ECM celebrates 50 years of continuous independent music production, an anniversary that warrants a look back at the journey so far. The Touchstones reissue series highlights the albums that have been made over this long period. It includes many recordings that are now considered milestones in the history of jazz and improvisation. In 2019, 50 Touchstones will be released: the first 25 in January, the next 25 in May. The first Touchstones collection was released to great acclaim on the occasion of ECM's 40th anniversary. As it did a decade ago, the 2019 reissue offers what contributed to ECM's reputation: great music, amazing sound, and original graphics.
