Vs. is the second studio album by American rock band Pearl Jam , released on October 19, 1993 by Epic Records. After a long period of touring and recording, the band released their debut album Ten in 1991. The album Vs. was produced by Brendan O'Brien, who had worked with the band on Ten. The album was recorded at Studio X in Seattle, Washington. The album was well received by music critics and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Vs. has been certified platinum five times in the United States by the RIAA. Three singles were released from the album: "Go", "Daughter" and "Animal". The songs on Vs. were written by singer Eddie Vedder and guitarist Stone Gossard, with the exception of "Blood", which was written by bassist Jeff Ament. Ament said: "We went into the studio wanting to make a punk rock record, and I think we succeeded." The album's music has a more aggressive sound than Ten, featuring a fast tempo and electric guitar. Vs. is Pearl Jam's first album with drummer Dave Abbruzzese. Abbruzzese joined the band after the release of the album
