"Passages" is a collaborative chamber album that Ravi Shankar composed with Philip Glass, released in 1990. The album is a hybrid of Hindustani classical music and Glass's distinctive American style of minimalist new music. A collaboration between an avant-garde composer of modern classical music and a traditional Indian composer seems unlikely, but Passages works beautifully. Shankar's subtle style perfectly complements Glass's dissonant orchestration. The album reached number three on the Billboard Top World Music Charts. For fans of minimalist composers like John Cage, Steve Reich and Terry Riley.
