Already with his first album Life Thru A Lens, ROBBIE WILLIAMS made the leap from cute poster boy to pop star to be taken seriously. With his first solo hit, a cover of George Michael's "Freedom", he made it clear that he didn't want to ride the wave of his former band Take That's success to the death. He launched his real solo career with the release of "Life Thru A Lens" in September 1997, which ROBBIE WILLIAMS spiced up with nasal Britpop, twisted grunge and glam rock, and a dash of garage sound - a modern pop outfit that instantly fit him like a glove. Robbie co-wrote all the songs; most of them with Guy Chambers, who has since become his regular co-writer and producer. The debut album was made, as ROBBIE himself says, "out of the sheer joy of creating something of my own". "Life Thru A Lens" had only moderate success at first, until the single "Angels" gave the debut album its full shine. Other hits such as "Old Before I Die", "Lazy Days", "South Of The Border" and especially "Let Me Entertain You", which has since become an acclaimed concert opener, attest to the LP's immense quality.
