Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band was formed in 1995 by drummer Shawn Crahan and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in the early years, the band settled on a nine-member final lineup of Corey Taylor, Mick Thomson, Jim Root, Paul Gray, Craig Jones, Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Chris Fehn and Shawn Crahan. Slipknot's self-titled debut album was released in 1999 and reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album spawned two singles, "Wait and Bleed" and "Spit It Out", which reached number thirty-one and twenty-eight, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100. "Wait and Bleed" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2001. Slipknot's second studio album Iowa was released in 2001. The album reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Three singles were released from the album: "The Heretic Anthem", "Left Behind" and "My Plague". The song "The Heretic Anthem" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in the category.
