The Eternal is the fourteenth studio album by American alternative rock band Sonic Youth , released on June 9, 2009 by Matador Records. The album was recorded in three different studios in New York City between 2007 and 2008 and was produced by John Agnello. The Eternal marked the band's first collaboration with a producer since 1995's Washing Machine. The album was well received by music critics, who praised Sonic Youth's eclectic blend of styles and experimental approach.
