Temple of the Dog was a Seattle supergroup formed in 1990 by Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden and Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard and Mike McCready of Pearl Jam. Temple of the Dog's only album was released in 1991. Ament, Gossard and McCready were also in the band Mother Love Bone, which broke up after the death of its frontman Andrew Wood. Cornell was Wood's roommate and the two formed a close friendship. The album was recorded in less than two weeks in early 1991 at Bad Animals studio in Seattle. The album was released on April 16, 1991 by A&M Records. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number five on the Billboard 200 chart. The single "Hunger Strike" became a hit and reached number four on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
