Just as earlier albums influenced bands like Grandaddy and Mercury Rev, The Soft Bulletin and its follow-up Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots became inspirations for bands like MGMT and Empire of the Sun. Sure, it's an album of its time - but one with a reach that's still making its way across the modern musical landscape. ME/Sounds 6/99: "It's nice that there are still musicians with backbone whose work you can look forward to like a little kid every time. "Flips" have been on the scene since 1983 and have delighted us time and time again with one great noise-pop record after another.
