The American band, founded by former At The Drive-In members Omar Rodriguez and Cedric Bixler, who gave a thrilling performance in Prague in April, is finally releasing their album. It's a concept album inspired by the suicide of a close friend. Death is unfortunately close to the band even now, only a few weeks ago the so-called sound manipulator Jeremy Michael Ward left the band, probably dying of an overdose. Flea, a member of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who opened for Mars Volta, also recorded the album with the band. RHCP also claim Mars Volta to be unequivocally the best band in the world. It is not without interest that a number of critics have spoken similarly of the band. The album was produced by the legendary Rick Rubin and to make matters worse, the cover art was designed by Storm Thorgenson, who worked with Pink Floyd.
