Sing Street is the latest film from director and screenwriter John Carney, who has made two of the most stunning musical films of recent years - the Oscar-winning Once and the summer hit Can A Song Save Your Life? Carney's passion for music is also evident in his new film, which is set in 1980s Dublin. The creative filmmaker has conjured up the story of a music-crazed teenager who, labelled an outsider at school, escapes into the world of pop music and dreams of the unattainable, beautiful Raphina by his side. His idea: he invites Raphina into his band's music video. His problem: he doesn't have a band and can't play an instrument. So he starts a band with a few guys from the neighborhood and they enthusiastically compose their first songs. The music, which makes up a large part of the film, evokes the feeling of living in the 80s thanks to an unforgettable soundtrack with hits by The Cure, Duran Duran, The Police and Genesis. The soundtrack is like a compilation of 80s material with new material from Sing Street, the band featured in the film.
