Between the dungeon and the crownJan Václav Stich was one of the greatest virtuosos on the French horn around 1800 - and he had quite an exciting life: He escaped from serfdom and had to hide from his minions - hence his "poitalch" name to disguise himself. The horn has always been central to his work as a soloist, bandleader, arranger and teacher. One of his pupils was Johannes Amon, who carried his predilection for the horn into his own compositions, inspiring Johann Michael Mettenleiter. The combination with flute and strings that Compagnia di Punto presents on its new CD in three pieces from the milieu of its namesake is particularly appealing.
