Hirundo Maris is a musical ensemble that specializes in a blend of early music and folk traditions, with a particular focus on Mediterranean and Nordic cultural influences. The group was co-founded by the Norwegian tenor and instrumentalist Arianna Savall, daughter of the renowned early music figures Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras, and the Swiss musician Petter Udland Johansen. Hirundo Maris, which translates to "Sea Swallow" from Latin, reflects the ensemble's interest in musical migration and the cross-pollination of styles across seas and borders. They are known for their use of historical instruments as well as traditional ones from various cultures, creating a unique sound that bridges different historical periods and geographical areas. The ensemble has received acclaim for their performances and recordings that often explore themes of love, nature, and spirituality.
