Johann Pachelbel

Baroque German Composer and Organist

Johann Pachelbel was a German composer, organist, and teacher who is considered one of the most important composers of the Baroque era. Born in Nuremberg in 1653, Pachelbel's contributions to the development of the chorale prelude and fugue have earned him a place as a central figure in the Protestant liturgical music tradition. His most famous work, the "Canon in D Major," remains one of the most recognized pieces of classical music to this day. Although originally composed for three violins and basso continuo, it has been arranged for many different combinations of instruments since its rediscovery in the 20th century.
