Comprised of brooding heaviness and atmospheric calm, their sound reflects the dense and expansive landscape of the Pacific Northwest. With their debut 2014 release, “Black Mountain”, Sól established a sound for themselves that highlighted dynamic qualities of soft clean post-rock sections with loud depressing chord progressions in a single package. Their new album “Upheaval” continues to accentuate and expand these dynamic qualities by incorporating influences from ambient music and extreme metal. Each song provides a stark contrast of soft beautiful passages and crushing metal riffs, with elements of hardcore, black metal, and sludge. Lyrically, “Upheaval” examines our disconnection from one another, and from the world in which we reside. It was recorded at Toadhouse Studios with Adam Pike and mastered by Magnus Lindberg Productions.
