Russian Symphony Orchestra

The Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1882, is one of Russia's oldest and most esteemed symphony orchestras. It was initially known as the Imperial Music Choir and later underwent several name changes reflecting the country's political transformations. The orchestra gained its current name after the fall of the Soviet Union. Throughout its history, the orchestra has been led by a series of distinguished conductors, including Yuri Temirkanov, who has been the principal conductor since 1988.
