Disco and soul legend

Sylvester James Jr., known mononymously as Sylvester, was an American singer-songwriter. Primarily active from the late 1960s until his death in 1988, Sylvester became a prominent figure in the disco and dance music scenes. He was known for his flamboyant and androgynous appearance, falsetto singing voice, and hit singles such as "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and "Dance (Disco Heat)." His career began in the gospel choir before he moved to San Francisco and became involved with the avant-garde drag troupe The Cockettes. Sylvester's solo career took off in the mid-1970s, and he gained a reputation for his soulful performances and high-energy shows.
