The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) is a British period-instrument orchestra based in Cambridge, England. Founded in 1973 by Christopher Hogwood, the ensemble specializes in performing Baroque and Classical music on instruments and with performance techniques that would have been familiar to composers of that time. The name "Academy of Ancient Music" was borrowed from a previous ensemble dating back to the 18th century, which had been founded by Christopher Simpson and others in 1726. Under Hogwood's leadership, the AAM gained international acclaim for its authentic and historically informed performances.
