Instrumental

The instrumental is normally recorded without any vocals, although it may contain some unintelligible vocals, such as shouted backup vocals in a large band. Through semantic extension, the broader meaning of the word song may refer to instrumentals. Music is primarily or exclusively produced by musical instruments. An instrumental may exist in a musical score after it is written by the composer; in the composer's mind (especially when the composer performs the piece himself, as in the case of a blues guitar soloist or folk music fiddler); as a piece performed live by a single instrumentalist or ensemble, which may consist of components ranging from a duo or trio to a large big band, concert band, or orchestra.
