New Age

New Age is a marketing term used for various forms of soft, melodic, instrumental music, often intended for relaxation or "easy" listening, sometimes with a spiritual angle. It tends to be made with synthesizers or digital keyboards that are played in traditional styles (as if it were a piano), though it can also lean towards the experimental. On the experimental side, it includes a wide range of ambient music, space music, field recordings of natural sounds (rain, lightning, rustling trees, animals, etc.), and may include sounds of recitation or drone sounds. However, it almost always emphasizes tonal sounds and the main melody. There may be strong modal harmonies.
