Cliff Richard is a British pop singer, musician, performer, and actor who has had a prolific and enduring career since his emergence in the late 1950s. Born Harry Rodger Webb on October 14, 1940, in Lucknow, India, he moved to the UK with his family in 1948. Richard first gained fame with his backing group The Shadows and quickly became a fixture of the British pop music scene. His early hits included "Move It," which is often cited as one of the first authentic British rock 'n' roll songs.
