Pioneering American Hip-Hop Group

Run-DMC is a pioneering hip hop group from Hollis, Queens, New York, that played an instrumental role in bringing the genre to mainstream popularity. Formed in 1981 by Joseph Simmons (Run), Darryl McDaniels (DMC), and Jason Mizell (Jam Master Jay), Run-DMC is often credited with breaking down the barriers between rock and rap with their unique style and fusion of genres. They were the first hip hop group to achieve a Gold album with their self-titled debut "Run-D.M.C." in 1984 and to be nominated for a Grammy Award. Their follow-up album, "King of Rock" in 1985, further cemented their status as hip hop royalty with its title track becoming an MTV staple.
