Turicaphon AG

Swiss record company Turicaphon AG was founded on October 1st, 1930 in Zurich. In 1936 they took over a bankrupt pressing factory in Riedikon, where they manufactured vinyl discs until 1992. Before and during the war, they mainly released Swiss artists. In 1948 Turicaphon opened a studio in Vienna, releasing on Austroton. In Switzerland they founded Elite Special for all different kinds of music. All together, 100.000 titles got recorded for the biggest Swiss labels, radio and TV stations, as well as many self-released artists. In their best times, they pressed up to 4 million records a year, mainly for other labels like Ex Libris, Polydor or EMI. In 1985 Hans L. Oestreicher junior took over the business. In 1991 they stopped to press records. Nowadays, Turicaphon works as Broker for CD/DVD and vinyl manufacturing, label producer, distributor and publisher. Vinyl pressings can be identified by "Made in Switzerland", "SWISS MADE" and / or the [crossbow logo] or TU in the runouts. "TU" is sometimes printed on labels. Turicaphon AG = Turicaphon SA = Turicaphon Ltd. These are all language variations.
