The exceptional Danish singer and Berliner Agnes Obel presents a new release "Late Night Tales". "Sounds have always been more interesting to me than words," says Agnes Obel. "I love it when the voice becomes an instrument and one forgets its human origin." There's nothing that fits that statement better on this exquisitely composed and enchanting selection of music, which, like every Agnes Obel song, exudes serenity and peace. It's the slow motion antithesis of rush hour traffic, like a frozen lake on a Sunday morning. Agnes Obel combines the songs of the enigmatic Jamaican Nora Dean (produced by Duke Reid) with the cutting, caustic "Party Girl" by Michelle Gurevich that inspired the French film of the same name. The vibrant voices of the Bulgarian Folk Choir, Nina Simone, Ray Davies and Agnes herself meet the more-or-less electronic tracks of Yello, CAN and iconic Greek composer Lena Platonos. The collection is enriched with new material by Agnes Obel, such as the Danish song "Glemmer Du", an arrangement of Inger Christensen's poem "Poem For Death" and the song "Bee Dance".
