In the late 1960s there was a vibrant psychedelic music scene in the Canterbury area, revolving around a group called The Wilde Flowers. Recordings of the band itself are almost non-existent, but after its break-up, other influential bands emerged from the ashes: Gong, Soft Machine and especially Caravan. Caravan's eponymous debut was released in 1968. It is considered a seminal album, reflecting the weird yet experimental mood of the time.
