Holy Diver is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Dio , released on May 25, 1983. It was the first album to feature drummer Vinny Appice, who had previously played with Black Sabbath. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling more than one million copies in the United States. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number four on the UK Albums Chart and number 62 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned four singles, "Rainbow in the Dark", "Holy Diver", "Straight Through the Heart" and "The Last in Line". The album has been re-released several times, most recently in 2010 as a two-disc set. Holy Diver is cited as one of the best heavy metal albums of all time. It is ranked #11 on IGN magazine's "25 Greatest Metal Albums" and #15 on VH1's "40 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".
