Rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore, who was highly regarded in this country, died at his holiday home on Spain's Costa Del Sol on the first weekend in February at the age of 58. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in April 1952, the brilliant string virtuoso began his musical career as a teenager. From 1969 to 1971 he played with Phil Lynott in the Dublin band Skid Row - not to be confused with the American hard rock band of the same name. Skid Row released two albums. Moore subsequently formed his first band under his own name and worked as a session musician. After a brief intermezzo with Irish rock legend Thin Lizzy, which he rejoined in 1978 on the album "Black Rose", he formed the jazz-rock band Colosseum II in 1975 with Jon Hisemann, Don Airey, Neil Murray and Mike Starrs. The band released three albums before disbanding and Gary Moore embarked on a new solo career. He scored an international hit with the song "Parisienne Walkways" in another collaboration with Phil Lynott. The two musicians worked together repeatedly until Lynott's death in 1986, for example on the classic "Out In The Fields". In the 1980s, Moore established himself as a successful hard rock musician, but he also surprised everyone with his gentle ballads. His albums "Wild Frontiers" and "After The War" became international successes, reaching the Top 10 charts in this country as well. Even more surprising was the style change in 1990 with the album "Still Got The Blues". The musical "reorientation" was received with enthusiasm by the fans. "Still Got The Blues" reached number 4 in the German charts and the following CD "After Hours" (1992) jumped to number 2 in the German charts. Now a special edition DVD of his compilation "Ballads & Blues" is being released, which has been available without interruption since 1994 and has long since been gold-plated by the old precious metal standards (gold equals 250,000 albums sold). In addition to a total of 10 original and concert music videos, it also includes a longer track-by-track interview with Gary Moore. He also demonstrates a few guitar tricks.
