The French band's first album since "Magma", which was twice nominated for a Grammy five years ago, will be released in April 2021 As if the band shed its skin and exposed the shell beneath, "Born For One Thing" represents the natural evolution of the universally acclaimed French band: hyper-focused but exuberant, fierce but compassionate. "We have to learn to detach from everything, starting with the real things," says singer and guitarist Joe Duplantier of the song's anti-consumption message, inspired in part by Tibetan and Thai philosophers he read while growing up in France. "Hoard less possessions and give away what you don't need, because one day we have to part with everything, and if we don't, we'll become ghosts caught between dimensions." Recorded and produced by Joe Duplantier at Silver Cord Studio - Gojira's headquarters in Ridgewood, Queens - and mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine), "Fortitude" is a collection of songs that challenge us humans to imagine a new world - and then turn it into reality. The band laid the first groundwork for the album last year when they surprisingly released the single "Another World." "Fortitude" continues Gojira's long-standing tradition of using their music as a vehicle for environmental activism, in songs like "Amazonia" and "The Chant," which not only explore critical causes but also urge listeners to take action themselves.
