Small spark, big flame In 2021, twenty years after their formation, Leprous release a new studio album "Aphelion". The follow-up to 2019's "Pitfalls" is the seventh LPm release from the Norwegian progressive metal band from Notodden. The eleven songs were recorded at three different studios: Ghost Ward in Sweden, Ocean Sound Recordings in Norway and Cederberg Studios in Norway. The mixing was done by Adam Noble (Placebo, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves), just like on the previous album. The mastering was done by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Placebo, The Gaslight Anthem). Leprous singer and keyboardist Einar Solberg said of the album: "We hadn't planned to start a new album, but then Covid came along. Aphelion is a completely different album. It's intuitive and spontaneous. We experimented with many completely different ways of writing music and explored new ways of working. There was no room for overthinking, too much perfectionism or carefully planned songs. I think that's one of the strengths of this album. It's lively, free and doesn't feel too calculated." Leprous has already unveiled two singles from "Aphelion," the songs "Castaway Angels" and "Running Low." "The original idea for 'Running Low' came about when I forced myself to write a sketch on my phone on the way to the mountain peak of Himingen in Telemark, Norway," says Solberg. "When I was doing it, it seemed completely pointless, but when I got back I could go ahead and really structure it into a proper composition. Then we got together with the band at the Cederberg studio to develop it even further. This song is proof that even a small spark can become a big flame." A sentence that can be perfectly applied to the whole album. With "Aphelion", Leprous once again prove themselves as inventive rock mavericks, presenting 2021 with the most intense material and the most tender music of their career, carefully arranged, beautifully crafted. "Aphelion" is available as a standard CD and as a limited edition Mediabook CD. Record lovers can look forward to a double LP including CD. Exclusive to jpc, the album is also available as a limited edition CD and double LP on Bright Gold Vinyl. But only while stocks last.
