Schenker with an impressive guest list It's hard to imagine the rock world without Michael Schenker, who began his career with the Scorpions in the early 1970s. In 2022, the German guitarist and internationally successful rock star looks back on his long career, which he now continues again with his Michael Schenker Group. "Universal" is the title of their new album. "Universal" comes just one year after the band's last album "Immortal". It was recorded and produced in the studio by Kidroom Schenker and Michael Voss, who also contributed to the mixing desk of the previous album and to the Michael Schenker Fest albums "Resurrection" (2018) and "Revelation" (2019). Schenker wrote about the collaboration: "Michael Voss likes to wait for me to work out an idea and takes his time to really get to know the song while coming up with ideas for the vocals. Then we'll come up with drums, bass and some keyboard parts together. He always has a lot of great ideas up his sleeve." On "Universal," Schenker is musically assisted by vocalists Ronnie Romero (Rainbow) as lead vocalist, Michael Kiske (Helloween) and Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), keyboardist Steve Mann, drummers Simon Phillips, Brian Tichy, Bobby Rondinelli and Bodo Schopf, and bassists Bob Daisley, Barry Sparks and Barend Courbois. In addition, Anthony Lawrence "Tony" Carey can be heard as a guest. A particular highlight of the album is the song "Calling Baal/A King Has Gone", which is a tribute to the late singer Ronnie James Dio and his time in the band Rainbow. Schenker is featured here along with former Rainbow members Daisley, Rondinelli and Carey.
