As a member of the successful duo 2Cellos, cellist Hauser has achieved worldwide fame, filling many large concert halls and pop festivals (Rock am Ring and Wacken). Under the title "Classic" he releases his first solo album with the London Symphony Orchestra on Sony Classical. "'Classic' impresses with its utmost simplicity," Hauser emphasises. "The album presents a selection of the most beautiful and romantic classical melodies written by the greatest composers, played on the cello, the most beautiful and romantic instrument of all." Hauser is accompanied by the renowned London Symphony Orchestra. The arrangements are by Robin Smith, who has worked with Cher, Andrea Bocelli and Lionel Richie. Classic" was produced by Nick Patrick, who has recorded with such stars as Jonas Kaufmann, Hans Zimmer and Katherine Jenkins. Every song on his solo debut has long been close to the 33-year-old singer's heart. For a classically trained musician, it is not surprising that Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart plays a prominent role. "He wrote so many incredibly beautiful second movements that it was hard for me to choose," Hauser says. "In the end, we decided on the slow movements of his Clarinet Concerto and Piano Concerto No. 21 - both are very simple and moving. We'll also play the 'Lacrimosa' from Mozart's Requiem, one of the saddest melodies ever written and one of the last that Mozart put to paper. The sound of the cello here is extremely moving." "Classic" also includes two pieces by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the album opens with the famous "Allegro moderato" from the ballet Swan Lake and later features an excerpt from The Nutcracker. Among the most romantic moments are the Intermezzo from Pietro Mascagni's opera Cavalleria rusticana, the Nocturne in C sharp minor by Fryderyk Chopin and the equally moving and serene "Air" from Johann Sebastian Bach's third orchestral suite. In an equally moving interpretation, Hauser celebrates one of the most famous tenor arias of all time: the "Nessun dorma" from Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot". The heartfelt soprano aria "Lascia ch'io pianga" from Georg Friedrich Händel's opera Rinaldo is also unmissable here. "I like this piece very much," Hauser admits. "This aria is for cello. I can't believe that in all the centuries since it was written, no one has ever played it on the cello." Finally, "Classic" includes more recent 20th-century works, including Samuel Barber's very emotional "Adagio for Strings." There's also James Last's evergreen "The Lonely Shepherd," which recently appeared on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's cult film "Kill Bill Volume 1," and "River Flows in You" by South Korean pianist and composer Yiruma - a "deeply moving tune" for Hauser. "This is what the world needs now - such melodies, music with heart and soul, played on the cello," the artist is sure. "I hope I can reach and touch as many people as possible with this album. With all the passion we put into this album, 'Classic' will definitely achieve that."
