This set hopes to be a gateway to a whole new revolutionary sonic experience. These are relics that have something to say to the contemporary listener because they sound incredibly far ahead of their time(s) and ours. Revolutionary because much of the material included has pushed and continues to push the very definition of what music is. Some of the aspects that are common to all of this music are the complete abandonment of traditional forms of composition or produced sounds; the complete abandonment or detachment from traditional forms and the absence of conventionally produced sounds. This really represents everything new and revolutionary that we have come to expect since the beginning of the postmodern era. The fact that they still sound new, fresh, powerful and challenging today is a testament to this revolutionary nature. Here are examples of the techniques and sound systems that have shaped modern music as we know it today. These are the first ever examples of looping a song, playing a song backwards, or using many of the other effects that are so common for musicians today. Some of the examples here can also be considered some of the earliest forms of New Age, with artists using raw techniques to create some of the first deliberately ambient and hypnotic compositions. The selection begins in the 1920s, nearly a century ago_and ends in the early 1960s, before the more modern era and all its recording innovations and marketing strategies. The tracks are arranged to provide a coherent and surprisingly easy way to enjoy and appreciate this potentially confusing area of music - to provide the listener with some of the most multilayered (in all senses of the word) experiences. Thanks to advanced 21st century techniques, every track here has a low noise level that has been achieved without loss of palpability or dynamic range.
