L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR) is a Swiss symphony orchestra based in Geneva, Switzerland. It was founded in 1918 by conductor Ernest Ansermet, who served as its principal conductor until 1967. The orchestra is renowned for its interpretations of French and Russian music, as well as works by Swiss composers. Throughout its history, the OSR has been associated with premieres of works by composers such as Igor Stravinsky and Frank Martin. The orchestra has made numerous recordings over the years, many of which have received critical acclaim. After Ansermet's tenure, the orchestra has been led by a succession of distinguished conductors, including Wolfgang Sawallisch, Horst Stein, Armin Jordan, Fabio Luisi, and Jonathan Nott. The OSR continues to maintain a busy schedule of concerts and recordings and remains an important cultural institution in the Swiss Romande region.
